Manaia Whanota - Kawhaka Flower Pounamu
Manaia Whanota
Tai Tokerau style
The Manaia is a guardian spirit from the natural world, carved over doorways and storehouses. When effectively blessed it serves as a protector with the power to whakanoa and rotu bad intentions and energies. This kaitiaki draws its whakapapa from the carving style of the Far North, featuring a front facing profile which is less often seen with the Manaia.
Kawhaka Flower Pounamu
The Arahura river has shifted over the centuries leaving behind a bed filled with ancient Pounamu. Deadly flash floods turn up precious nectar buried since the days of legends. Kawhaka Pounamu is some of the best. This was collected by Kaitiaki Rangatira of Ngati Waewae and Ngapuhi Nui Tohu, Ngati Rahiri.
Carved by Emry Kamahi Tahatai Kereru. Adjustable pull cord binding.
