Makotaniwha Kokopu
$500.00
Makotaniwha (Niho / Shark Tooth) carved from an Arahura Kokopu cobble with grain patterned dendrites and flowering.
The Unaunahi is patterned as a simple Puhoro, referencing the assocation of the Niho with Takaroa by the interlapping waves within waves. Shark Teeth were historically reserved for Ariki / Rangatira and persons of paramount tapu status.
This Taonga could perhaps suit someone who uses the power of voice, one association of Tanga-roa being the meaning to breathe deeply, the rhythmic driving of waves being likened to the hau of kupu and breath.
Approx 7.5cm length. Carved by Emry Kereru.
