Matika / Gorge Hook. Inaka Pounamu sourced from Arahura by Ngati Waewae.
This piece is based on pattern studies of Taoka Tuturu from the historic kaik at Pahia, associated with Te Whanau Pahi, which before the Sealers and Whalers War was the largest settlement in Murihiku. Predominantly these Taoka are stylised Matika / Gorge Hook forms, an important part of life for the people of Foveaux Strait. Arahura Inaka has been substituted in place of the traditional Te Koroka source.
